A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a Technical Innovator to join a world-leading Genomics/Bioinformatics company located in Cambridgeshire.
You will be responsible for defining a long-term roadmap for new technology initiatives not yet on the market or currently market-available. You will define the future of the company’s hardware and software and evaluating how it aligns with developing scientific challenges. You will also see how the company can further engage with strategic commercial and scientific IT partners to develop solutions.
This post is research-based and has a cross-IT remit to guide technology towards the future (defining technological requirements, comparing and benchmarking prototypes) and you will be collaborating closely with other IT partners, vendors and scientific groups with the opportunity to shape the organisation at the early stages of development.
Your main responsibilities as a Technical Innovator will include:
-Defining new and emerging technological requirements and map how they can propel the company’s hardware and software forward
-Producing a 5-year roadmap
-Developing and tracking metrics for benchmarking the quality of technologies
-Defining technological requirements and specifications based on perception and user feedback
-Evaluating how emerging and new initiatives will align with our scientist challenges
-Communicating findings clearly and effectively in a number of ways to technical and non-technical audiences
The ideal Technical Innovator should fulfil the following requirements:
-Scientific or IT degree of at least 2:1 or above
-A demonstrable research background, peer review papers, released project works and posters are expected
-Proven background in IT is essential as well as demonstrable working knowledge of its core systems, components, architecture and an appreciation of different computation methods and approaches
-A strong and creative problem-solving mentality
-Experience coordinating research with the wider ICT teams and scientific groups to confirm developing IT and scientific computation challenges and plan research according to need
-An ability to present new ideas and opportunities to a wider audience of both highly technical and non-technical audiences
