Senior Communications Manager
Paramount are working in partnership with Genomics England to expand their team in order to deliver success as they move beyond the 100,000 Genomes Project. Genomics England will work with NHSE to launch the world’s first Genomic Medicine Service within a national healthcare system.
The Genomics England Communications and Engagement team provides professional advice and leadership for all communications and engagement activity for the organisation.
This post contributes to the development of a communications strategy that supports our engagement workstream and leads on its delivery. The post-holder also develops a range of activities that will engage a wide range of stakeholders, including patients and patient groups, policy makers, healthcare professionals, journalists, the research and clinical community, industry and the general public.
The postholder is responsible for researching a range of concurrent stories and work with a wide variety of stakeholders; producing well written copy for a variety of audiences and channels, and for supporting all aspects of communications, with a strong focus on events management and planning, stakeholder engagement, brand and visual identity leadership, use of digital channels and social media as well as some traditional media relations, internal communications and the production of publications and communications collateral.
*Contributing to the development of a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy for Genomics England, with the Director of Communication and Engagement
*Establishing a programme of engagement activities as defined by the strategy and delivering the communications to promote them.
*Measuring the effectiveness of campaigns and other communications and engagement activities
*Building strong working relationships with various stakeholders
*Developing and embedding communication processes and activities, such as an engagement planner and stakeholder map.
*Developing key messages that create and maintain appropriate and consistent language and terminology across all media
*Developing and maintaining the company’s visual identity, to ensure appropriate branding is used on all external and internal communications
*Fielding queries and information requests from a wide range of stakeholders, including journalists
*Contributing to the organisation’s digital and social media platforms
*Drafting high quality media materials, case studies, and resources
*Dealing with external contractors for design, print and photography
*Helping to analyse and evaluate all aspects of communications and engagement activity
*Providing creative, editorial and operational support for communications projects working with key delivery partners
*Managing external suppliers, as well any interns or work experience colleagues.
*Deputising for the Director of Communication and Engagement as required
*Proven expertise at developing strategic responses to business needs through effective and diverse communication methods.
*Extensive expertise in designing, delivering and evaluating corporate communications programmes, internally and externally.
*Expertise in successful project management and delivering programmes of high quality events and seminars to targeted audiences, including liaising with external events suppliers, using the latest event formats and technology.
*Proven ability to cost events, assess income/expenditure and of working within a budget.
*Solid expertise in promoting and marketing events to targeted audiences, developing supporting collateral and maximising attendance.
*Ability to anticipate and mitigate risks, handle unanticipated problems and suggest creative solutions.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral; ability to quickly establish and maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and external contacts.
*Excellent written skills and the ability to regularly write content for a range of channels including news and features for the website and to develop high quality materials for the media.
*Ability to organise workload, manage conflicting priorities, meet deadlines and targets, and consistently achieving the highest standards of delivery.
*Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form relationships at all levels
*Highly organised, and able to organise others; able to work flexibly and to adapt to changing priorities.
*Strong IT skills
*Good planning skills with the ability to manage own workload effectively
*The ability to communicate effectively at all levels throughout the organisation.
*Comfortable with media relations with a sound grasp of digital and social media technologies and a highly creative approach
