Release Manager

This post holder is responsible for the overall release management process, with an initial focus of deploying the NGIS solutions into internal and customer-owned environments. The post holder owns the release management lifecycle, including scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases and provide tools and services to help product management and project teams manage and deploy releases into production. The release manager works collaboratively with all participants in this software development project and support developers and testers as they set up their build dev/test environments.

Key Accountabilities Include:

*Establish a good working relationship with the wider project or product teams, key internal teams and customer / partner teams
*Forward plan the release windows and cycles
*Coordinate all delivery teams during the sprint process
*Manage the quality gate criteria defined
*Produce high quality accurate release notes
*Manage releases at the end of sprints
*Manage multiple simultaneous releases through environment hierarchies.
*Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
*Manage the smooth handover to testing providing clear artefacts
*Chair meetings to agree deliveries
*Manage the process of supplier coordination of code
*Present release requests to Change Approval Boards
*Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
*Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and that they meet or exceed expectations
*Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
*Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
*Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
*Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans
*Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required
*Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
*Work with release engineers to understand impacts of branches and code merges and to develop scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
*Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors.
*Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists.
*Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
*Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
*Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates
*Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
*Provide clear communication, internally and externally, around release plans and release notes.
*Manage the production and distribution of all deployment-related artefacts.
*Manage internal environments for development & testing.
*Provide continuous improvement in the speed, quality and reliability of deployments and in the automation of all aspects of the release process.
*Liaise with the project and other technical team to share best practice and drive up standards.

Key Requirements Include:

*Solid expertise in release management in a complex and fast paced environment (preferably with a software product or platform provider in a healthcare environment)
*Demonstrable exposure to delivery in a fast-paced mission critical project or service
*Worked on Agile programmes, with solid PRINCE II understanding
*Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative, but keep stakeholders informed regularly.
*Ability to work under tight deadlines, but maintaining the process.
*Advanced applied knowledge of software deployment lifecycles
*Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple cross-functional work teams toward task completion
*Able to manage up effectively and provide comprehensive reporting to the programme team management and other senior stakeholders
*Very strong communication skills and ability to influence others at all levels across the organisation and external partners
*Collaborative team player and able to make rapid decisions
*Good problem-solving expertise and ability to pro-actively trouble shoot and resolve issues
*Applied expertise in deploying multi-component software solutions across multiple environments.
*Experience of CI/CD pipelines and high levels of automation
*Proven experience with monitoring and alerting tools (eg New Relic, Prometheus etc), testing frameworks and tools (eg Cucumber, Selenium) and version control tools (Git)
