Postdoctoral Data Scientist – Dusseldorf/remote working – 12 month project

A great opportunity is available for a Data Scientist to join a global biopharmaceutical in Germany or the UK for a 12-month contract. Our client focuses on central nervous system and immunology disorders and aim to tackle unmet medical needs around the world.
As a Data Scientist you who will develop multivariate stratification algorithms and build longitudinal models of clinical cohorts. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the necessary unsupervised and supervised machine learning models. Moreover, you will work closely together with a further bioinformatics postdoc to apply the corresponding data analytical methods to multiple omics data entities, such as whole genome sequencing data, DNA methylation, gene expression, CHIPseq and proteomics.
You will be part of a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team all driven by a passion to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive complex, chronic diseases and response to treatment. They are skilled in data analytical methods development as well as the analysis and interpretation of large-scale omics datasets.
Candidate should be educated to PhD level in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or other related area
*Flexibility, genuine intellectual curiosity, ideation and eagerness to contribute are key elements of the position
*The individual should have a demonstrable experience and passion for machine learning, data mining and data visualization.
*Good theoretical understanding and real hands-on experience with a certain range of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods, including gradient boosting, Random Forests, autoencoder networks. Additional knowledge of Bayesian Networks and Bayesian inference techniques (e.g. belief propagation, likelihood weighting) is a plus.
*Deep knowledge of relevant scripting and analytics software, including R and Python. Additional knowledge of C++ is a plus.
*Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, h2o).
*Some basic understanding of Biology and Biomedicine.
*Confidence programming in a Linux / HPC environment, including shell scripting (bash, tcsh)
*Good communication skills to ensure alignment between computational and life scientists, physicians as well as management.
This position is full time and will ideally be based in Berkshire or near Dusseldorf, Germany. However, we can allow flexibility for the successful applicant to work from home in the UK or Germany. The company will offer a competitive hourly rate, and the chance to travel within Europe for meetings once a month.
