Cancer Genomics – 100,000 Genomes Project – Central London!
Paramount are working in partnership with Genomics England to expand their team in order to deliver success with the 100,000 Genomes Project. This is a challenging and fast moving project with the aim to carry out whole genome sequencing on 100,000 participants. As it moves beyond the 100k mark they are working with the NHS to launch the world’s first Genomic Medicine Service.
A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a GeCIP Coordinator to join their GeCIP Team which is part of the Chief Scientist’s division. You will be responsible for supporting GeCIP Cancer Researchers in their use of the Genomics England data – from policy development, stakeholder engagement and operational support.
This role would be ideal for someone with lab experience within non-inherited cancer research who has experience managing projects and groups of people either in an academic or industry setting.
Your main responsibilities as a CeGIP Coordinator will involve:
-Managing research within non-inherited cancer
-Policy development and execution – lead on the drafting and enactment of policies and terms of references
-Balance conflicting demands and priorities from different stakeholders to develop policies that balance research ethics and information governance considerations
-Engineer and enact governance structures and standard operating procedures to instigate given policies
-Represent interests of academic research community during internal discussions on a variety of topics
-Represent interests of the GeCIP cancer researchers during internal/external discussions
The ideal GeCIP Coordinator should fulfil the following requirements:
-Educated at PhD level (or MSc with several years’ experience in a Life Sciences field
-Experience with Project Management (managing groups as well)
-Thorough understanding of academic research sector and its governance and funding structures
-Must have good knowledge of Cancer Research within Genomics/Bioinformatics
-Experience of research in the academic sector (Postdoc ideally)
-Excellent communication skills (written/oral)
-Team player; must be able to work independently though as required
Genomics England works with key partners to collect, transport, store, quality check and sequence the samples from participants. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to take part in the biggest national genome sequencing effort of its kind anywhere in the world, bringing health benefits to UK citizens. Patients may be offered a diagnosis where there wasn’t one before. In time, there is the potential of new and more effective treatments.
