Director of Computational Biology, Human Genetics
Headquartered near Cambridge, one of the UK’s leading pharmaceutical companies is expanding their Human Genetics department, and seeking an innovative, motivating Director of Computational Biology to develop a growing team. The Human Genetics department utilizes large-scale human health data bases, state-of-the-art informatics platforms and integration of biological pathway and functional genomics data to identify targets of significance and improve understanding of how human genetics impacts disease.
This position would be responsible for guiding the department with cutting-edge analysis methods to inform decision making, and support drug discovery efforts in the field of immunology.
Responsibilities may include:
*The development and day-to-day line management of a computational biology team, tasked with delivering on projects to support the human genetics and R&D scientific strategy
*Drive novel computational approaches to translate human genetic and genomic evidence to inform target selection and validation decisions, with a focus on immune mechanisms.
*Shape the developing science of drug target identification and validation by providing scientific leadership to the research organisation and beyond.
*Engage with cross-functional project teams and external collaborators to drive innovative use of genetic/genomic data and analyses.
The ideal candidate will have:
*A PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistical Genetics, or a related discipline
*Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and develop junior scientists
* Experience leading computational biology/bioinformatics teams focused on target identification, genomic data analysis or translational bioinformatics, preferably in the context of drug discovery.
*Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex concepts and computational analyses clearly to influence diverse audiences.
*Sound understanding of statistics and biological concepts, coupled with data science skills to collect, integrate, mine and analyse complex biological data and translate them into testable hypotheses.
*Demonstrated experience of the analysis and integration of multi-omics data (e.g. transcriptomics, regulatory genomics, proteomics) for disease research.
*Proficiency in a programming language (such as R or Python) and a good working knowledge of common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools.
