Director of Bioinformatics
The Director of Bioinformatics is responsible for driving the translation of state-of-the-art bioinformatics into healthcare compatible solutions, while maintaining outstanding quality as evidenced by a variety of certifications.
The post holder oversees the daily operations of the Bioinformatics Directorate.
Key Accountabilities Include:
*Deputises for the Chief Bioinformatician in the day to day operations of the directorate.
*Responsible owner for bioinformatics in relationship with the customers and suppliers (NHSE, cohorts, Illumina, DSS).
*Lead and Represent Bioinformatics in all QA related aspects
*Directs efforts to ensure that the bioinformatics systems maintain accreditation
*Push GEL to continue to adopt best in class bioinformatics solutions. More generally drives the implementation of the Bioinformatics Roadmap across the various tribes and squads.
*Working with clinical safety officer to ensure that bioinformatics products are fit for clinical use
*Lead and Represent Bioinformatics in all external partnerships (Illumina, Dragen, Knowledgebases, NHSE)
*Lead and represent bioinformatics in internal product and services decisions to ensure it is achievable, technically and scientifically sound.
*Accountability for the smooth running of the Directorate. Run bioinformatics boards and similar
*Lead on internal career development initiatives including training on directorate specific skills such as machine learning, bioinformatics, software engineering
*Accountable for the operation of the bioinformatics pipeline such as throughput, quality, turnaround time.
*Work alongside product managers to prioritise bio applications to deliver according to the bio roadmap

Key Requirements Include:
*Strong background in WGS and bioinformatics
*Experience of leading teams
*Experience of working in accredited environment or equivalent (ideally ISO15189, IVDD or ISO13485)
*Strong stakeholder management
*Experience working in an agile framework
*Strong project and team management skills with at least 5 years experience
*A demonstrable ability to think about complex problems in an integrated way – systems thinking
*Gets enormous satisfaction from seeing things completed
*Exceptional self mastery in their ability to manage work and people
*Excellent and influencing others to achieve common goals
*Understanding on genomics in healthcare
*Experience working in product development within the healthcare or DNA sequencing sector
*Experience using tools such as JIRA, confluence etc
