Data Engineer/ Architect
This is a great opportunity for a self-sufficient data architect to join a fast-moving biotech start-up based in London.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for developing and implementing fit-for-purpose compute and storage architecture for a state-of-the-art multi-omics platform which will be used to drive forward the company’s target discovery and development programs. You will have full responsibility for supporting, documenting, monitoring and maintaining the complete cloud infrastructure and ensure its continued adaption to support future needs. Further, you will take charge of specific tasks including building data pipelines to pull together information from different source systems; integrating, consolidating and cleansing data; and structuring it for use in individual analytics applications.
Additionally, you will be responsible for building innovative multi-omics data integration, curation, and analytical query tools to enable simple, fast, and effective data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities and Requirements Include:
*Post-graduate qualification in a quantitative discipline (e.g. bioinformatics, data science, statistics, computational biology, computer science, applied mathematics, or similar)
*Experience of large-scale multi-omics data types (RNAseq, DNAseq etc)
*Experience with application development; data warehouse, database management
*Hands on experience with AWS cloud technologies: EC2, S3, etc
*Programming experience in a structured query or procedural language (e.g. SQL)
*Solid understanding of key data integration concepts (e.g. ETL) and practices (e.g. data modelling, database schema design and implementation)
*Knowledge of pipeline development tools/methodologies (e.g. nextflow, docker)
In addition, the following experiences/skills are desirable:
*Prior experience of integrating complex datasets for the purpose of drug target discovery
*Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Vega)
*Working knowledge of UNIX based operating systems
*Excellent analytical skills
*Exceptional communication skills
*Demonstrable excellence in problem solving within fixed timelines
*Ability to work within a virtual team environment
*Flexibility and the ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects
