Bioinformatics Project manager
1 Year Fixed-Term
To build on the success of the 100,000 Genomes Project, the Government tasked NHS England with support from Genomics England to launch a new NHS Genomic Medicine Service comprising a National Genomic Test Directory where 300,000 tests have been re-profiled and whole genome sequencing will be available for direct healthcare. Through 7 Genomic Laboratory Hubs this offers equitable access to the 55 million people in England to the latest genomic medicine and research. This will lead to faster diagnosis and personalised medicine.
Genomics England has been asked to prepare a plan for up to 5 million genomic tests over the next 5 years.
This role’s main purpose will be to assist in the co-ordination, day-to-day running and on-time implementation of software development within Genomics England within the bioinformatics and interpretation areas.
*Effectively manage bioinformatics and genomic analysis projects, from end to end.
*Assist with the collaborative development of bioinformatics and clinical interpretation platforms, to ensure that key milestones are met for their development, highlighting risks to the projects and ensuring that resources are appropriately assigned.
*Interface with stakeholders such as external suppliers, scientists, clinicians, bioinformaticians and Genomics England working groups as needed to ensure the successful roll-out of software products, and to ensure that customer requirements are met.
*Support and organise scrum meetings
*Analyse, interpret and present data to highlight issues or risks and support decision making.
*Ensure all partners are aware of each other’s priorities and activities.
*Experience of project management within an Agile software development environment, preferably with scrum master experience
*Extensive experience of managing diverse and complex projects and large software initiatives ideally in the genomics space.
*Basic understanding of genetics, sequencing and bioinformatics
*Data management, operational and scientific problem-solving skills.
*Project reporting capability and high level of analytical skills.
*Independent, highly organised and possess thorough documentation practices.
*Must have demonstrated excellent ability to interface with customers and internal teams ideally in the software settings.
*Able to work cross-functionally through many teams to help prioritise the backlog of tasks.
*Strong organisational, time management and planning skills.
*Self-motivated, with excellent ability to work on own initiative.
*Excellent team-working skills with willingness and ability to engage with others at all levels of the organisation.
*Ability to analyse information and present it in a clear, concise way to clinical, scientific, and corporate audiences.
*Ability to work under pressure without compromising the quality of work.
*Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
*Experience using Jira/Zephyr and Confluence would be a benefit
*Understanding of and experience of using continuous improvement techniques.
*Experience in managing software project development, deployment, or integration; experience with clinical genomics within a biotech/pharmaceutical organisation, research institute, or academic medical centre is preferred.
