Statistical Modelling - Data Science - Transcriptomics - Biomarker Discovery
Our team is eager to speak to an experienced candidate in statistical modelling & genetics for a new Principal level role based in Germany.
We are supporting the growth of the Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences function who are turning data into insights for the discovery and evaluation of new therapeutic concepts in discovery research. These teams are pioneering the applications of emerging digital technologies in order to enable the discovery and development of new medicines driven by data and digital tools.
This Principal Scientist will leverage human evidence through utilizing genetic and genomics data to drive breakthroughs in drug discovery. This includes developing ideas and methods to identify First-in-class new therapeutic concept, contribute to the understanding of the mechanism of action of a particular target, and design proof of clinical principal studies.
We'd love to speak to an expert in applying existing genetic methodologies and developing novel methods for analyzing rich genotype and phenotype data that are available from the human biobanks. You ideally have experience in characterizing gene function through meta-analyzing multi-dimensional datasets that include the GWAS summary statistics, eQTL, pQTL, epigenetic features, and other gene network knowledgebases.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
*As Principal Scientist you are accountable for establishing common genetic methods, such as GWAS / PheWAS, fine mapping, Mendelian Randomization and Polygenic Risk Score based patient stratification.
*You drive the analytic development utilizing population level genomics datasets to better characterize gene function and their roles in diseases.
*By collaborating with experimental, clinical and bioinformatics scientists, you support the design of studies for target and biomarker discovery and drive scientific and strategic priorities to accelerate portfolio advancement.
*You identify suitable statistical and machine learning methods, propose ideas and implement prototype workflows that are reproducible and self-contained (e.g. through R/python packaging, ideally containerized through Docker).
*Identifying external collaboration opportunities to help develop key analytical and pharmacological needs of the company is also part of your new profile.
*PhD in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Computational Biology or related field
*Five or more years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or academic sector and versed in state of the art biomarker technologies/omics platforms.
*Experience in integrating and analyzing large-scale patient "omics" data, e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics etc, sets to identify new indications
*Demonstrated experience in biomarker subject matter and preferred experience in clinical drug development is beneficial, including basic or advanced understanding of critical development functions
*Strong data science capability, demonstrated skills in coding and engineering.
*Ability to translate biological and medical questions into analytical models
*Extensive background in statistical computing or bioinformatics, with experience in relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
*Strong written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, independence and leadership
